Do you actually need to stay in the safehouse at night?
I notice that its only sometimes the dark spectres appear, and the gas does not seem to do anything against the savages and such at night, is there any reason for safehouses besides as crafting points? Also, the dark-ghost things killed me when I had a lantern on, do you REQUIRE electric light to stay alive or...

Flares and lamps keep the shadows away. It is required to stay inside of the safehouse at night. If you leave, you will be hunted down and killed by an unfightable entity of the woods. The gas keeps the entity away.

Next time you're playing, walk beyond the fences of your house and you'll see a red smoke trail. That's the reason to stay in a safehouse at night.

Shadows, which are the ghost things you talk of, will knock out all the lights in the house except for one. You'll need to turn on the generator, identify the working light, and wait until the ghosts dissipate. Lanterns and Torches have no effect against shadows. Shadows don't happen every night.

Thanks for the guidance, I was kindof expecting a 'get gud' kindof response.

This forum is a lot less toxic (if toxic at all) than other gaming communities. We just like to play and talk about Darkwood. You're welcome here :)

I can confirm that, barring a handful of problem individuals and the post-release fiasco, this community is generally pretty pleasant and helpful.
