I understand it's possible to run right through to chapter two in one day. Interestingly in my current playthrough I got the best possible map ever for a speedrun, the positions of all the key locations were perfect (amazing RNG!). I'm guessing the random starting positions of the key locations is massive for speedrunning this game.
There is a bug which I've reported a couple of times where you can reset the day back to morning if you go to the doctors house location (road to doc, silent woods), in my current playthrough the docs house is right by the hideout so I can reset the day everyday..
..I've often wondered if this would be helpful in a speedrun because by the time you get to the silent woods it will be almost nightfall, going to the docs (if it was on the way) would reset the clock back to 9am. I can see this bug being fixed one day (unless it's intended behaviour!).
I watched a speedrun once where the guy was walking/running past lootable items, I know it's a speedrun and there's no point in stopping to loot but he walked over 'stamina improving items' (pills/meat/eggs etc), these items could have made him run for much longer bursts and saved time in the long run, you can loot pretty fast in this game, I'd say they are worth 'stopping' for.
Not aware of any major exploits or glitches yet. Glitchless runs are often more interesting though.
A murderous route is fastest, since you just cut down the Chicken Lady.
Play on the easiest difficulty and suicide at 20:10 to skip to the next dawn.
Dying on the lowest difficulty during the day is a free teleport to the last oven you saved at.
The Radio Tower escape is a must, since it skips the majority of Chapter 2.
Most plot locations generate towards the edge of the map.
It's a little weird if you're new to speedrunning (I am as well!). It's not just 1 type of run or method. This run for example,
The "Any%" means go as fast as possible through the game using any in-game method. Even reverting the game to an early build if that's what the community around the game decides is most fair, fun, and challenging. There are other categories like 100%, or all bosses, no hit, etc. If you even just a passing interest in speedrunning definitely check here: speedrun.com Current record for DW any% is 30:04 on normal difficulty so you can die in Old Woods and pop in Dry Meadow :D I just got w.r. a little over a week ago. Lot of practice, tears, and goofy songs, but finally got it. I'm looking for a little bit more though. Just a 15-30 second time save that will give me a larger buffer from 2nd place LOL I know it's kinda cringe to watch ppl passing up stam/health items! It's just personal choice. Yeah, it don't take long to grab an egg or white pill... It takes FOREVER to tab open inventory, drag to hotbar, esc. close, hold right click, left click eat o.o I have a couple spots I like to loot along the way for stam regen. If I see a "search" corpse along my path I'll take a look if I'm + time for sure. As to the dieing thing. It's part of the game. It was implemented by the devs so I don't feel like it's a exploit really, just a feature of the game. If you don't cook at any ovens and you die in the old woods you rez at Hideout 1!!! Yeayy!!! It really does not save much time anyway. You can run back and be a little behind. In the end it's all preference. I love any% glitches and all. It takes precision, finesse, and hours of practice to execute correctly and consistently. The Darkwood any% run is not a shining example of how much can go into learning a any% run lol Nothing special or tricky. Just a long stressful jog through the worst parts of Poland. HalfLife (1 and 2) and Dishonored 1 Any% are better examples that showcase that "any%" charm :DThanks for the conversation :) and for replying. I'll mess with the bug you found and see if anything comes of it!Have a great rest of the week MazyRun! [speedrun.com]
Yep! :D That's what I do in my current run (30:04) except I suicide in old woods after Train to quickly get Dry Meadow / Underground Entrance. Then Yerp, Radio Tower is the best choice for any% Even if it's sometimes a stubborn butt to find XD
I guess DW is too solid and there aren't any "pass through burned house from Dry Meadow to Old Woods" type stuff to mess with.
Thanks for the help Null :D appreciate it!
