Couple of beginner questions
I just cooked my first... Thing I guess. I didn't notice anything happen but i'm... assuming something did. I also read you can have dreams? But the bed wont let me sleep in it.

Also, how will i know night from day?

I wanna craft a wooden plank with nails in it, i have boards and nails but I cant...

I cooked something and i assume it made it but it didnt seem to do anything else. Idk if it "triggered".

Also, overall it's super creepy. Liking it a lot, just confused on some things.

You don't sleep at night, you survive.

Dreams occur sometimes upon leveling up. You're taken straight to them.

You'll know it's night when a foggy beasty is stripping away your character's flesh.
Alternatively, your character gives a warning during the evening about getting home, and once you have a watch you need to be home and prepared by 20:00.

Use a workbench for most crafting needs.

You need to reach a certain level of Essence from cooked items to reach the next dosage level.

So... I didn't get one when i did my first injection (dream) since i didnt go right to it?

Yeah... I just encountered an extremly foggy night. I didn't get hurt but my god there was lights and sounds and THE FRONT DOOR OPENED and i hid.

ooooooooo... ok. Didn't realize that. I guess some basic crafting like torches bandages etc is ok on the go but a lot is hideouts.

I think i reached level 2. I put enough mushys in and chose my options and hit confirm, now its 22/150.

quick tip, you can repair the well outside your hideout and use it to restore your health once a day.

Just keep playing man. I had like 140 boards and 400 nails in Safehouse 2 when I first played, then I realized I was wasting those resources and started to only keep surplus of what I needed. Sold the rest over a period of a "trade week" where I just sold off all my excess crap to wolf and trader joe and didn't advance the story.
