Game gets really boring, don't know what I'm doing, death is meaningless, game gives a literal F-you to your face
The boring - I'm just running from place to place, hope I find♥♥♥♥♥♥ and it doesn't respawn, but enemies (at least wolves) seem to, well crap. At least something to keep wasting non-renewable resources until you inevitably get into an endless death-loop boredom.

What am I doing - I'm stuck in a corner, unable to progress. Some♥♥♥♥♥♥requires key codes, some requires actual keys, and I get none of that... at least until one point, to which I'll get back to in a bit.

Death is meaningless - what is the point wasting resources on health and stuff, when you can just die, come back and get your stuff. To that extension, what is the point of surviving the next day? BEfore day 8, last time I "survived" I got to day 5, emaning 2 days passed where I just died. From boredom. What's the point of the day count anyway, other than to show how long you've been bored and been wandering around looking for something-you-don't-know-what.

The game drops me an f-bomb - just when I thought I could progress by finding a piece of paper telling me a code with "3333" on it, I fouund that the door it opens is a door that loops back around to the area as a shortcut back-door to where I got in through the house itself. Marvelous!

In the end, from starting to get bored, I started bashing every living thing I encountered and bashing the traders that dare reside in my house, seems to skip me to mid-day by doing that, but who cares. Get off my property, I'm bored as is.

Should I read the wiki? Is this one of those types of games? I actually thought game design was superb up until the second or third day of survival, with the prologue and all that, but now it just lost me. I've been to the wedding area, just to find there's nothing there. May be I found something useless, I wouldn't know. If it's some easter egg ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t, thanks for the time waste.

I came in expecting a game that would progress well, but no, that's too much to ask. Instead it's just like Don't Starve, in that its game design is really bad and it tries to make you addicted to its gameplay, but the only difference is that DS actually makes you addicted, until a point, this just makes me quit until a month later when I may give the game another go. Really hate quitting games in a bitter mood or having to check the wiki. It's just awful game design. But I guess none of this really matters, cause developers can't have the time or will to improve it, at least in my experience.

EDIT: Ech, sorry for the rant, after reading some of the replies:
1 and 2) I was supposed to progress, but never got around to getting to the Silent Forest, partially because the game glitched out, partially because I didn't seem to have good enough indication to what my next goal should be. I'm a guy who looks at the visuals of the screen and what's happening, not read text at the borders of the screen, unless that captures my eye somehow. And if I do, I often forget about what I just read, so, would have been best if the game were to somehow take a bit more of the show-don't-tell route. Aside from that the game does actually give you an alright direction.

3) This is actually partially a good thing. I don't need to survive a night necessarily to progress, which can keep me going in the game, so it works out for normal mode rather well. Still, it does feel meaningless to survive at least at the beginning, as you can just die to fast-forward a bit of the time and skip losing resources. But now, I've gained some good stuff from surviving a certain night.

4) That was a glitch. Or may be I miss-clicked a number too much, but I'm pretty sure I double-checked the code. It must have glitched, hence I ouldn't progress. Then, frustration insued.

Most resources are renewable, since they can be found on enemy corpses or bought from the story-advancing traders that you killed out of frustration.

Death used to be the end of your game; the original default difficulty was Nightmare. If you feel that the easiest difficulty makes death meaningless, then bump it up.

The Wedding is properly opened up by opening your front door when it's being knocked on at night and picking up the invitation.

If you would search areas more thoroughly and check your journal for reminders, then you might be a bit less lost. Very early on, Wolfman gives you your first immediate goal: meet him in the Silent Forest, the second game area. You found one of the codes in the house that transitions to that area, but seem to have given up on finding the proper exit.

I don't know why you expected easy advancement when the game is advertised as being difficult and says at the start that it will not hold your hand. Like Dark Souls, NPCs give you general goals to accomplish but don't tell you how to do so; it is left up to the player to explore the game world and get things done.

I recommend calming down, starting fresh, and being a bit more patient and thorough next time. If you have literally killed every NPC you've encountered so far, then your current file is locked to only one possible way of advancing due to your actions.

Meanwhile I've completed the whole game without checking the wiki or getting stuck and now i'm replaying this awesome game on harder difficulty.

No offence but you're kind of stupid for thinking it's going to be an simple walk from start to finish,
I mean the game itself says it's not going to lead you by hand

Also if you think death is meaningless then try harder difficulties I personally started with hard (and I lost a few saves this way xD)

Remember to read your journal sometimes (default "J"), it has a lot of useful information and helps you progress with the story

One last thing, You can break wooden doors so if there is one locked with a passcode or a key, just smash it with that nailboard or shovel of yours.

@Koci Pustelnik care to explain how you figured out that the journal is the J key? Or is that something common in horror games that I don't know about? Outlast didn't seem to take use of the J key, why would I assume this game would? In fact, I don't know any game that requires pressing J for anything, and let alone not tell you about it.

@Khârn the Betrayer yeah, no, I'm nearly 20. Fortnite is the kind of crap you would not enjoy but still get addicted to like Don't Starve, don't need another one of those games, thnx. I was able to understand most of how to navigate through a game like Rain World.

Not being led by the hand could mean many things, but can the game at least hint or have things set up so that you do progress? I was not able to do this, because I've explored almost everywhere and have yet to find anything that would let me progress from the first big forest area. What do I do?

The game tells you the journal key early in gameplay. Also, did you check your settings and keybindings before playing? That's pretty standard for PC gaming.

As I said in my first post, you seem to have missed the key item in the transition house to get through. Explore it again, preferably on a new save where you haven't broken every questline via murder.

You need to start over and pay attention. End of story. The game is great. I hated it when I first started it but pretty soon was unable to put it down

I guess I pay more attention to what's happening in the game rather than text that appears anywhere on the borders of the screen. Checked out a lets-play and turns out the game even tells you that pressing J shows the journal.

Though it must have really glitched out the door to the Silent Forest for me for sure.

I hope it won't glitch out for you this time and you'll like the game. Have fun:Darkwolf:
