On your first playthrough choosing which stuff to buy/sell is all a judgement call and part of making tricky decisions, so without giving you too much of a spoiler answer..
I would say if you ever really need to sell stuff which can be re-bought back later (or found again) just go for it, especially if it feels like it might be a duplicate item.
The worst that could happen is you regret selling it and at some point you have buy or find another one..
The Darkwood wiki is a good source of info for things like this (if you dont mind spoilers), it will tell you where, when and how many times the welder item can be used (and found).
..Then it's up to them how many answers to game related things they want to look up.. but just like Pvt. Privates said, try not to look things up unless you're completely stuck.
In later playthroughs you can find yourself wishing you still had those kind of interesting dilemmas over items. On the other hand it is pretty nice to be able to play super optimally in future runs.
