First Night at the Old Woods Hideout...
All I could say is... YIKES. I'm still trying to get used to the red chomper's behavior, and with the shovel's slow attacks, it's really hard to fight back against them. The close quarters might work to my advantage perhaps, but with so many coming in at once, it feels like I'm playing a game of Pac-Man with how maze-like this hideout is (might also be my fault for forgetting to cover one open hole in the wall). Any tips on how to not have that much trouble in this area? I'm still a workshop upgrade away from getting myself a nifty axe...

I can't help you with the hideout part as I have avoided spending nights in the Old Woods hideout as much as possible in every playthrough I have done, but I do know that you will not be able to upgrade your workshop for the axe until the next chapter.

i had used a small hallway that is open from one side and there is a orr on the other. i used a wardrobe to block the open gap in the room and then completely covered the are in glass for protection, if you want to be a little more extra you can add some bear traps around certain gaps within or around the hideout to help keep some of those chompers away but i would just avoid staying there in general imo.

Shotgun and molotovs are made for Close Quarters Chompers. If the chomper chooses to break a barricade, you can quickly bear trap the entrance.
For survivability I always carry health pills and armor in my hotbar. Eat odd meat whenever available for extra safety.
I barricade all exterior openings plus the door to the right of the workshop. Makes the layout into 2 embedded loops. Step outside if you need some breathing room, it's not that bad.

In the Old Woods Hideout, it is quite common for Chompers to start attacking your barricades and they will destroy them before getting bored and give up. Throwing a Molorov at a barricade that is almost destroyed will burn whatever enemy is behind the door making it easier to finish them off. It also creates a flame wall that discourages more enemies from entering.

You can get an Axe in Chapter 1 if *MINOR SPOILER*

*MINOR SPOILER*

If you help Wolfman by giving him the Key Covered in Chicken Feces from the Village in the SIlent Forest earlier, you can meet him in the Barn Ruins in the Old Woods where he will bring you to the Doctor's House. The Axe will be in the first small building you pass through behind a locked wooden door. The key is further ahead carried by a Madman you can kill, though you could always just break down the door.

Boy, the place sure sounds tough to keep safe... with all the guys breaking down window and door barricades left and right, is the reputation reward even worth it if I'm gonna spend a lot of those points on fixing my hideout up again? Is it more recommended for me to stay at the Silent Forest hideout (which I can deal with more easily)?

Also, I finally got the axe in Chapter 1, yay! Now to upgrade the bad boy...

Many people will recommend NOT hunkering in the Old Woods Hideout as it is challenging. I find the reputation reward not worth it however it is still quite fun since there is almost always danger every night in there. If you find it too hard to make it through the night, you can return to the Silent Woods hideout and travel to the Old Woods in the day.

*SPOILER*

In Chapter 2, you will lose all items besides the ones you are carrying in your inventory. This includes all reputation. So it is not much point in saving up too much reputation.

It's not a spoiler when the game tells you about it twice.

heres a tip from me, the old woods hideout is definatly the thoughest around chapter 1, but there is one key rule to hunkering down in that hellhole and that is: stay quiet. Many people semm to not get it, stealth is key, much like the rest of the old woods, not fighting a chompper is better than fighting one since most of the time the odd meat isnt neceserally worth the bullits/durability you put into it. I personally still put up barricades and block off certain entrences, but still what i do is that i saty around the workbench and the rooms around it as those have less entry points, set up your lights inteligently and you might as well also diseable the generator when possible as it makes it harder for enemies to detect you from the outside. Now here is my personal best 2 tips for defence: first, put your beartraps in front of the most likely barricades (on the inside not outside) then drench that succker in gasoline as you probably have to much anyway ( on most of my playthroughs i have at least 12 full gerycans lying around) and when somebody comes in, light him up. this will most likely kill or severly injure him and also allow you to barricade back up because the fire keeps things out. Second thing is: gas bottles, these things act like hand grenades, only harder to set up. the blast is devastating so if you find yourself in a tight spot (which you will trust me) just throw stand clear and blow whit matches

I find hideout 3 pretty fun. I hide in the room with the oven, I use the desks and dressers (Everything but the wardrobe) on the door closest to the oven and just build a line of funiture down the hall covering the door and barricade it. Then I use the wardrobe to block the other door cause its a really tight space and don't barricade the door, (This is my exit/entrance door)

For the most part... nights are pretty peaceful. I put bear traps near everything but my exit/entrance and litter the floor in broken glass.
