How do I craft an axe?

I have the required recources to craft an axe, but the option to acually craft it does not appear!

You will eventually upgrade/level up the workbench to the correct level to be able to craft it (it won't be until chapter two though), however you might find an axe before then, if you do you could use the craft materials to upgrade the found axe.

Can you find an axe in chapter 1? And where?

It's all in the Darkwood Wiki. There's a location which can unlock late into chapter one (depending on storypath decisions). There is an axe at this location, it's inside a locked room so you will also need to have found the key (details of the locations of keys also in Wiki).

You can just smash down wooden doors instead of hunting down the key.
