I don't think it's scary to the point where you won't sleep at night, but it'll surely keep you uncomfortable at all times while playing.
I'm also a wuss, but i really enjoyed the horror aspect in this game, i don't think Darkwood is worth playing for survival only, althrough it's good, it's not same as other survival games, there's no hunger or thirst, resources don't respawn so you gotta move on after some time if you wanna stay in an area, don't worry though, there's more than enough.
The real fear factor comes into play during permadeath playthroughs.. when your character only has one life that's when fear of death becomes real (knowing that missteps and mistakes could lead to game over).
It's not horrific or gory though.
