You also can't go back because the path becomes full of rubble and the hatch locks.
I didn't get any of those messages. Is it possible they glitched? The only thing I can think of is when I walked into the shack with the white arrow on the ground, I had two messages, but the second immediately replaced the first. The second was just describing the arrow on the floor. So I know that I missed whatever message came before that, but I really do not remember any character monologues about this.
Even if you took nothing it's still possible to build everything up again from scratch, there are a lot of resources throughout the biome.
I didn't know what to take with me the first time I made it to chapter 2, but after a few days there I realised it didn't really matter, whatever you do take is a bonus.
It feels good to start over at the mid way point with fresh storage space again. The transition between chapters teaches us that there's no need to hoard items in future playthroughs.
Using up everything we find (instead of saving it) makes future playthroughs a lot more interesting, it made me realise a permadeath run wouldn't be as hard as I first thought.
If you brought all your upgraded weapons across that's a bonus..
Within a few days of scavenging you will have a bench full of fuel, wood, nails, rags, bottles etc again. You will literally run out of inventory space to store it all (which I'm sure you experienced in chapter 1 as well).
Nope, bike bell does not work in Chapter 2.
It doesn't matter. There are resources all over the place in Chapter 2 and you still see a trader every morning, in addition to getting +$250 for surviving each night. You will rapidly reach a point where you have plenty of cash and nothing worth spending it on.
Bottles and rags are the only things that seem to be kind of annoying to get in Chapter 2. You can't buy bottles, but at least you can buy rags. I usually bring a stack of bottles with me and those along with some alcohol you'll find in various stashes (which can be turned into bottles by making torches with the alcohol) and that's more than enough to have enough lanterns to last the rest of the game.
Honestly, Darkwood gives you WAY more stuff than you will ever possibly need. Hoarding is a trap.
