On a scale of 1 to lovecraftian, how lovecraftian is this game?
Basically the title. lovecraftian games are my jam.

A fair bit, but there's more traditional folklore mixed in.

With an opener like that, I have to ask you to name some good ones. Dark Corners of the Earth was rubbish, but Penumbra was quite good (at least part 1; I though the others were slightly weaker). But I'd love to hear what others you put on the list. I just finished Conarium but it seemed only to border on Lovecraft's universe. Never felt like it actually broke into the universe though... Others?

It's a little lovecraftian, but mostly in the way it uses your imagination against you. There's also not a lot of explanation for why things are as horrible in the woods as they are, and people going mad.

On a side note, if Lovecraftian games are your thing, Bloodborne is by far the best one. If you own a PS4 (or are thinking of buying one), Bloodborne uses Lovecraftian lore in amazing ways. I've never seen anything else come close.

There are plenty of games that are linear with Lovecraft themes, like the corners of the earth games or even that call of cthulhu game that is supposed to be coming to PS4 at some point. But what I found very interesting about dark wood is that it was open world, and it tries to play with the main theme of h.p Lovecraft stuff which is fear of the unknown. There are games like darkest dungeon and blood borne like the kind gentlemen yazu13 mentioned, in those games you can always kill the enemy where as frequently in cthulhu mythos the enemy is untouchable and unkillable.

I've heard Blood Borne is a good one, but I neither have nor have any intention of moving to a PS4. I'm a PC gamer all the way. Eventually there's supposed to be another coming soon and I'll probably jump right on board! But Conarium was thematically lovecraftian but never really hit the marks. There have been others, the name Loath Nolder comes to mind, but nothing really ever captured it like that first part of the Penumbra series. I was hoping someone would unearth (pun intended) another PC one that I may have missed.
Thanks!

Pretty lovecraftian, especially towards the end.
