What a dumb comment to make. Demanding the player possess precognition in order to not be arbitrarily screwed by the game is really stupid.
Really? You need to be psychic to guess that he isn't a great guy and that he will try to kill you? It's entirely up to the player on whether they act first or see how it plays out, but the game outright tells you his intentions before you even finish up the Silent Woods.
Seems like OP got spoiled by modern games.
FYI I grew up with games such as Castlevania, Alone in the Dark, Might & Magic Unreal, Baldur's Gate, System Shock, Thief etc.
This has nothing to do with challenge.
Flickering lights and weak weapons make this encounter an exercise in frustration. Simple as that.
And if you play the swamp with any sense of rationality, you'll always be going out with at least one decent firearm and a stack of ammo, so you should have at least some weapons left to take Wolf on with at any time.
I do agree that it's kind of out-of-the-blue, though. Maybe some sort of warning is in place, like the player character saying "Something is out there. I should keep myself well-armed."
But this set piece will initiate if you do as he asks and leave all your items on the dummy (even flares and pills ffs).
Wait... are you telling me that you can drop your weapons on the floor and pick them up during the fight?
Personally, I just killed him at that point. The dude has human trophies all over his house, there's no way I'm stripping my gear in front of him.
I should have figured that out since I was able to lay traps.
Anyway, thanks and duly noted.
