The game crashes as soon as I load it. (RGSS3 Error)
The game's executable file needs to be added to the DEP Exception list.
Microsoft Technet: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc700810.aspx#XSLTsection124121120120 Steps to Solve:
  • Open Start Menu
  • Right-click Computer and select Properties
  • Open the "Advanced System Settings" on the left panel
  • Select the "Advanced" tab
  • Under the "Performance" heading, select Settings
  • Select the "Data Execution Prevention" tab
  • Select "Turn on DEP for all programs and services..."
  • Click the "Add..." button
  • Locate "Game.exe" in the steamapps folder
  • Click Apply, then Click Ok

Do note that you will need to restart your computer for these changes to take effect.

Big thanks to Truce and Whitknight28 for helping squash this one!

I've enabled and disabled DEP from cmd.exe as administrator and I can't get it to allow me to add or remove any programs. I am logged in as administrator and cannot fix this.

DEP is grayed out for me, I even enabled it in cmd.exe and it was still gayed out.

Do you have the "Turn ON DEP" selected like in this image?

I figured it out. I did the correct prompt in cmd.exe however I also had to do an optin prompt as well, so I was just missing one thing. It works now. Thank you!

Hey Joe, mind sharing the optin prompt you had to use? I've had no success with the DEP disable prompt itself as well. Thanks!

Ahah, I found it! Thank goodness. Just replacing the 'AlwaysOff' with 'Optin' fixed it all. Thanks a ton guys.

Always Sometimes Off.

Yes, sorry, I should have specified. I'm glad you found it Xeygwyn! In case others are still looking for it, the prompt I needed to type into cmd.exe was bcdedit /set nx OptIn to enable DEP. Then I was able to add the game's .exe to the exceptions.

This solution doesn't work on Win 8.1 GoG version :''( Task Manager says: RGSS3 Player (32bit) Not Responding, Always Sometimes Monsters Not Responding.
CPU goes mad (over 50%).

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp Meeeeeeeeeeeee Pleeeeeeeeeease!

Fixed it by getting shot of my codec pack in installing this one: http://www.xpcodecpack.com/dl/X-Codec-Pack-2.6.4.exe

Proper solution for windows 8:

1. Press Start in Windows, find "cmd" or "command prompt", press right mouse button and run as administrator.
2. type "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn" and enter. (AltGr B + N for {} brackets)
3. type "bcdedit.exe /set nx OptIn" and enter. (it's capital I like India)
4. Restart PC.

Now you can execute steps from original poster:

Steps to Solve:
Open Start Menu
Right-click Computer and select Properties
Open the "Advanced System Settings" on the left panel
Select the "Advanced" tab
Under the "Performance" heading, select Settings
Select the "Data Execution Prevention" tab
Select "Turn on DEP for all programs and services..."
Click the "Add..." button
Locate "Game.exe" in the steamapps folder
Click Apply, then Click Ok

And finally restart the PC.

Hi,

Is the RGSS3 Error possible on Linux systems ? Because I have a similar problem (the game doesn't want to start).

And is someone know how to find the DEP Exception list on Ubuntu ? I couldn't find its location on the web.

Thanks.
