How does the automatic saving of gifs work?

Seriously, why the hell is this even an option if nobody even knows HOW it works and WHERE it saves them, even on the official forums and the only thing it does is negatively impact the gameplay?

Ctrl+Shift+G, you will see a overlay, drag it with the mouse, press G to record, press G again to stop record. Mention the path on top of the box, this is where the GIF will be stored.

did all of this and gif folder turned up empty? any help?

I don't get it either. The game did not update since the last time it worked, but now it suddenly does not work.
