Because it has bro in the name, and that is a word Pewdiepie made for his fans.

Nope, it's still pure. I think markiplier got to it, though.

Not that it matters, I didn't let an immature Swedish screamer ruin Battleblock for me.

As I recall, the devs are appreciative of Pewdiepie because he DID play Broforce, and since he's the most-subscribed youtuber it got the game a lot of publicity. So, while Broforce is not in any way affiliated with Pewdiepie, you could, I suppose, consider him part of the reason it's as well-known as it is now.

I found out about the game from Best Friends Zaibatsu, personally.
