My saves are back. I don’t know how much the connection to the server or the network affects, but I can say that one day the saves disappeared and I couldn’t play online the next day the saves returned and the game online is again available.
btw you can't install saves that don't match the version of the game and on the internet I've only come across old saves.
Solution that worked in my case:
Deactivate the cloud saves in the game management Broforce's entry in the steam library . Then close steam and launch steam again and then launch the game.
Voila: The save is back. Played for a bit and then I closed the game again. Switched the steam cloud saves back on, then closed and launched steam again. Steam reported a cloud sync mismatch and I was asked to choose which save to keep. I kept the local one which was newer and the cloud save was overwritten. Problem solved.
