covert mission items?

this might be a dumb question, but what to the items you unlock when completing the covert ops do? how do i use them?

Basically, when you unlock one of those items, they will be randomly placed into the levels in place of wooden crates. So, basically, every crate in a level has a small chance of spawning as one of the powerups you've unlocked. If you break open the crate and grab the powerup, that powerup will replace your special attack, and is used with the same button.

Last I checked, all of the powerups also refill your special ammo, so you'll be able to use them again once you've used the power.
