Did they ever fix the crash to desktop bug?
I used to play this game a lot but it always suffered from a bug that would cause the game to randomly close itself to desktop during gameplay. From what I remember, there was some kind of known memory leak bug that was eventually unavoidable when playing long enough.

Does anyone know if that issue ever got addressed in this version?

Here are a couple of places where this bug has been discussed, though I can't find more details about it:

https://www.gog.com/forum/simcity_series/simcity_3000_crash_to_desktop

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/917992-simcity-4-deluxe-edition/answers/181613-why-does-the-game-keep-crashing-for-no-apparent-reason

I know this issue has persisted on every single computer I've tried it on ever since I played the game back in the day on my Windows 98 Pentium II PC. The workaround is trying to remember to save often, but it can still be pretty frustrating.

I have not faced this issue, even on playing sessions 5+ hours long.

As you said, saving often is your best friend. Not only in this game, for that matter.

If you suffer from this issue, keep Task Manager open or use something like MSI and keep an eye on the amount of RAM used. Restart the game once the memory used gets too high for your liking.

Ditto!

It has crashed only tremendously rarely in the past but only a single-digit quantity of instances in the decade since I began using Simcity 3000 Unlimited - widescreen support - GOG SUPPORT CENTER[files.gog.com]and 4GB Patch - NTCore[ntcore.com]together

It's crashed on me twice in 2 hours. @Kalio

That's unfortunate. It seems to be completely random. Sometime I could play for hours and it would be fine, other times it would crash after an hour or two.

Disabling all external overlays and using the pair of utilities linked above almost guarantees a smooth experience
