1st thing I do, new game or not, in any game I expect to play for a while, is figure out the save system.
If no autosave is included, then I save manually at least every hour.
And in newer complex sandbox games like this one, that includes autosaving - i.e. Cities Skylines or Transport Fever - I usually play with autosave off anyway, due to performance and stability reasons.
I think i've gotten low-single-digit crashes or similar total in the past decade and for context, that's it being 1 of my initial 3 installations and never falling out of my top ~5 most played
That said I've never not used both GOG's widescreen executable and ntc's util applied to it
- Simcity 3000 Unlimited - widescreen support - GOG SUPPORT CENTER[files.gog.com]
- 4GB Patch - NTCore[ntcore.com]
