How does the demolish tool work? I tried to demolish a 1 square and 2 square room to put a 3 square room there and I couldn't demolish them.

Hello, you can only demolish a room if no rooms depend on it. Simply put, you can't demolish room A if room B stands on top of it, even partially.
yes the demolish is pointless.
Although I haven't gotten far into the game and am thus not aware of all the features that I may not have unlocked yet, I have a couple of thoughts on the early gameplay. I have noticed we don't get any money back for the rooms if we demolish them so, can you make it so that we can move the rooms around? This could be done during the round, for empty rooms while maintaining room requirements and/or a phase before the beginning of the next round. Between rounds would give you greater freedom for deleting and moving rooms without regard to support or elevator access as long as the final configuration is valid before the next round begins. I feel this would add to the flexibility and freedom to play around with different designs as well as make up for previous mistakes in the layout of your hotel in the live-play scramble from the previous round. This would also add to the "Tetris" like play in that you get the chance to play around with the 'pieces" while trying to come up with a design that both makes sense and is visibly appealing or efficient.

It would be nice if it was possible to change the layout of rooms. There should be a difference between structure and internal layout. Demolishing a room should leave empty structure which can later be filled again with rooms.
Agree with everyone. Lacking the ability to optimize space to "upgrade" from a single occupancy to 2 is just not fun. You end up with a bunch of single occupancy because of the early game and the width max. Rethink the transition from early to mid to late game. Players want to fix past mistakes that were necessary or simply optimize space. currently the demolish is pointless unless you misclicked.
