Stop calling it a rail shooter.
Okay, by definition it IS a rail shooter. But when was the last time you played Time Crisis with a keyboard/mouse or controller? Remember...that game required a specific gun designed just for the series. It had an auto cover system by pressing a button. This game however, wants to give you full directional control over the cover system. And it's a nightmare. You have to aim and shoot with one stick and move and dodge into cover with the other. It feels floaty (smoothing, lacking any real tactile response), is completely pointless because A.I. just shift into your terribly pointless cover anyway, and well...is a complete cheesefest.

The rail shooting from House of the Dead and the Resident Evil Wii series are light years ahead of this game in every aspect. This game doesn't even deserve to carry the same moniker.

Being a bad example of the genre doesn't mean it isn't part of the genre.

Glad we agree on that

it is a rail shooter, you don't directly control you movement, the game does that for you, you just shoot.

Since you talk about a stick. Do you really play shooters on PC with a controller? That's even worse than using a mouse instead of a light gun lol

It works fine, it's just way easier with a mouse. I do wonder if it would work with those lightguns they sell. I have a guncon3 but sadly it's impossible to find drivers for it.
This game couch co-op with 2 light guns would make 100 times better for sure :P

I haven't looked recently - but from what I remember, the older guns dont work with the type of screens PC uses, sadly. The only reason that I still have all my PS2 light gun games and a giant old tv! :)

There is a chinese peripheral called the EMS TopGun which is a PC gun that uses sensor pads or bars.

How much would you care to wager on this statement? Because I spent the better part of two hours moving him around a pile of useless rocks with holes in them attempting to dodge gunshots (to no avail) before finally throwing in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ towel. The game didn't "do it" or anything else for me other than throw terrible A.I. and broken cover at me.

For every one of you that's said anything even remotely complimentary about this game, you're full of ♥♥♥♥ and haven't played it yet.

Dude, you just don't get it. It's not about that.

The game plays like Time Crisis only without the gun designed solely for it. So, in lieu of that, you have to use either a controller or keyboard to manuever your character WHILE aiming seperately with your mouse or other analog stick. You can't just press a button and duck, you have to manually hold the position into the cover. This plays NOTHING like any other rail shooter ever made for PC or Console when it comes to controls. It's absolutely terrible.
How did you play it without owning it?
Icedfate Feb 22, 2014 @ 2:53am
personally i wouldn't pay $40 for a rail shooter...the price must be the license and licenced video games always suck. you people should all know that by now. i don't have to play this to know that

He played it at his friends house...
Licensed games don't always suck:
Lucasarts Indiana Jones adventure,
Jedi Knight PC games
Lego Batman, Avengers

I'm sure there are lots more I've forgotten that are pretty universally praised.
Icedfate Feb 22, 2014 @ 3:59am
i will concede i liked the super star wars on snes. and i'm one of the few that actually liked the nes Rambo game and would have rather seen a remake of that...kind of like the way they did ducktales remastered, bionic commando : rearmed, double dragon neo, and there's some new strider remake in the steam store as well.

the cut scenes in this look nice but "rail shooter" + $40 price tag = me not going for it

and to be honest i don't understand why the "Lego" games are so "universally praised" I tried a demo of the lego star wars and i found it to be simplistic and clunky and i didn't like it

With the lego games it's mainly the lego-based humour in the cut scenes. The actual gameplay is usually simplistic and too easy.
Icedfate Feb 22, 2014 @ 4:03am
i guess i contradicted myself...because i liked the original ducktales on nes and bought the remastered game and those are both liceensed and the new south park game looks good but i'm not paying $60 for the license
