ROM, remake, or..? (GOG??)
What exactly is the "content"? Emulated ROM/files, PC remake to look/sound/feel like original NG game, or..?

It is a direct port with some quality of life features added to it. Like vibration function, bezel artwork options, crt filters, scalable resolution, etc.

But is it worth $20? I think that is too much for a port.

Yes, it is worth as much in western countries. You won't find a better modern game in this category. Even games like Final Vendetta and Shredder's Revenge were priced higher when they launched. But this game feels more fresh in comparison.

Game is great, I do wish there was a way to get a rom copy for my MVSX.

Vengeance Hunters was designed for the Neo-Geo AES and MVS platforms. However, we also thought of modern gamers when designing the game and the feature set and tried to include as much as we possibly could.

The game is not a ROM using an emulator to play the ROM. It is natively built for all platforms (also available on PSN, Xbox and Nintendo Switch). So the game will run fast and be responsive and accurately represent the true look/sound of the game as intended. Which I know some emulators struggle with.

The modern port has a number of features that you would expect from a new game in 2024 even if it's roots are firmly from 199X.

The game is also purchasable on the Nalua Studio website as a physical cartridge for the Neo-Geo AES and MVS. Which is expensive (Neo-Geo carts are extremely expensive to make), but super freaking cool.

Right. So just to be 100% clear --because in a way, to me, there is enough ambiguity in your entire response to, technically, still leave some room for uncertainty-- this is not an old existing game, rather, a new "property" from the ground up -- made to look/feel as if it is an old NG game. ie: Vengeance Hunters is a 2024 "maiden voyage" release?!?

PS: Will you guys release it via GOG, even if at a later date, or intend to? :lunar2019grinningpig: (DO IT!!)

PPS: What about selling Steam keys via the Humble Store? :steamsad:

This is a game designed for Neo Geo systems, then ported to modern platforms by using the same assets without changing any mechanics within the game. Just the same game as on NG. Only some QoL features are added like CRT filters, background artworks, achievements, scalable resolution.

To be perfectly clear, Vengeance Hunters is a brand new game. It is designed for the Neo-Geo AES/MVS hardware, which is old, but the game is brand new. So the game was designed for the Neo-Geo, but we also created native builds for other platforms. And we added some nice to haves for those platforms that people would expect (achievements, display and sound options etc.).

Yup, now I know for sure. Okay, cool. Wishlisted.

.and you guys are ignoring the GOG question. Don't be like that now. Release it there too, again, even if later - after you are satisfied you sold "all you can" via Steam.

Oh, I didn't ignore it! I just missed it haha.

I'll ask the team and see what it takes to get the game up on GOG as well.

Fear not, for if you release games there, you will be in good company

IMO the issue is with piracy because anyone who got the game can share gog's game installer.

I'd love to purchase a Neo Geo rom (in place, or in addition to the PC port), would that be an option at some point? Some neo retro games have offered this in the past.

AFAIK they do not have plans to sell a decrypted rom due to piracy. But they consider to release encrypted rom for NeoSD cartridge IIRC.

Yup, this is the case. If we release a ROM, it will be for the NeoSD flash carts.
