Start boost?

I have gotten the boost by accident on race start, but I can't get the timing right again.
Has anyone else figured out how it works?
When am I supposed to accelerate to get the fast start?

I was curious as well and searched the steam discussions lol.

Pressing and holding accelerate when the words "SET" comes on the screen will give you the boost. I just tried it out and got it every time, quite the game changer.

edit: you'll also know you got it because you'll see some orange flames coming out of your back-end like me after taco bell.

The key that is untold is that you shouldn't touch the gas before the "SET" or otherwise it won't work.
