Just remember that the majority of games bought on steam are bought on sale so you should take that into account. Most steam games on sale will be what the publisher intended to sell it as anyway unless its a massive discount which usually comes later in a games life to expand the player base.

So what is your sale discount? If you want your game to be sold for 9.99 you could put it up for the 19.99 and just have regular sales at 50% off. I know it seems kind of underhanded but that's just how steam works no point in taking money out of your own pocket just to be nice.
