GAME FIX!
Hey guys, I recently brought this game and had the same issue of the game not being able to run and coming up with the “Freespace2/Fred2 cannot be run from a drive root directory!”

So did some looking around in the game files and came across “FS2.reg” file found under C:/Program Files(x86)/Steam/Steamapps/common/Freespace2/data.

I simply ran the FS2.reg file and then started up Freespace2.exe and from there the game started up and worked

Hope this helped!

Mine almost worked. But it started up filling a chunk of my desktop with a black screen. Then it said "Freespace has Crashed" then I clicked close. Does this everytime. Solution?

I'm using Windows 7, nothing special like ultimate.

If needed in the future:
Windows 7
GTX 660 TI NVGA Edition
I7 4770
8 GB of Ram

Maybe try validating your files and restarting your computer then give it a go

I tried both of those, no luck. I also tried uninstalling the game, and reinstalling it. Still no luck

How can they rerelease a game that runs worse than the Original CD copy on the same system!
