Best FSOpen mods?

I'm new to the Freespace2 mod scene. What mods should I be checking out?

These are what I have so far:
fsport
st:reborn
blue planet 1& 2
transcend

I'd appreciate suggestions (especially ones I can use with the Media 2014 VPs.)

My personal favorites in addition to the stuff you already have are Derelict, an oldie but a goodie much in the vein of the FS2 campaign (which you should definitely finish first!), Dimensional Eclipse and Wings of Dawn. If you can get past the anime settings, they're really innovative and loads of fun.

Yeah, I'd add Derelict too. Parts of it haven't aged as well as they could but it's solid and does a nice job of leading into Blue Planet thematically.
Down the road you should also check out Vassago's Dirge, which as I recall is canon to BP.

If you liked Freespace 1 and Silent Threat Reborn, you might enjoy Frontlines: it's set during the TV War, and designed to play and feel as much like FS1 as possible.

You may want to try "Vassago's Dirge". Awesome mod !
You could also like Between the Ashes demo (2 missions, full version not coming before a long time), because it may become the best mod out there along with Blue Planet : War in Heaven.

Hi, can more than one mod be selected at a time? I select the "MediaVPs_2014", but selecting another mod removes the previous one from the window?
So hows it done?

Also I've selected fs2_open_3_7_2_RC3.exe in the Browse window, is that correct?

Selecting the MediaVPs in the launcher just means that you'll be able to play the FS2 main campaign with the MediaVPs graphical enhancements. Most other mods are dependent on the VPs for their assets, and will find them automatically. If you have any issues with advanced assets failing to load in a fan-made campaign, just go to the campaign's folder in the Freespace 2 directory and open its mod.ini with a text editor, and on the line "secondarylist" add "mediavps_2014"

Hi, thanks for the information. So do I select say blue planet 1& 2 from this mods tab then or edit the ini file? sorry a bit confused here...

You just have to select them from the mods tab of the launcher; pretty sure that BP looks for the 2014 VPs. The .ini is for future reference if you dig up any campaigns that point to an older set of VPs and thus don't load properly.

Ok, thanks, when I ran the initial Launcher, I selected everything :) so there is folder for all mods that I can see within the game folder. So how are the mods selected, so they can be played in the game then?

Just go to the FSO launcher mods tab, select mod, choose the folder of the mod you want to play (say, blueplanet2), click apply, and then run. Once you're in game, go to the campaign room and select the appropriate campaign (e.g. Blue Planet - Age of Aquarius)
Sorry if I wasn't being clear earlier, I thought you were asking how to activate the mediaVPs in campaigns that didn't automatically have them enabled. Blue Planet and most of the campaigns from the FSO installer do that already, so you shouldn't have to worry.

You can replay any mission you've already passed through the techroom.
