And also lol-worthy is how you went on about how you shouldn't have to "go thrugh all this modding" - then you explain a registration-editing process, which is WAY more involved than anything that has to do with installing FSO.
But, I'm unfollowing this thread now, since everyone who was whining before now has nothing to whine about.
The problem is that when FS2 came out on Steam, THIS FIX DIDN'T EXIST. In fact, it took us a few days to diagnose just what was wrong with the Steam version, since installing from CDs or GoG apparently worked. Installing FSO through the automated installer was simply the easiest fix around back then, especially since no one wants to ♥♥♥♥ around editing registry key or ♥♥♥♥ like that.
Although I love how Interplay provided that fix, but still didn't automate it (forcing people to go to their game folder & apply it themselves), or, you know, tell their customers about it. Seriously, we're lucky that someone took a look at their Freespace 2 folder & noticed the new file.
I any case, glad you are finally able to play :).
If you find yourself wanting more after finishing the game, you should check out the mods. A lot of them are really cool and installing mods is a trivial matter nowadays.
no what is amazing is the level of stupidity of some of you people. when you buy a game, its should ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ work point blank. no matter where the hell you buy it from. from the first moment the damn thing installs you should be able to click it and play it. so people are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that it wasnt working. so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ what, they have every right to because they bought the damn thing. what steam should do is test the ♥♥♥♥ out first before they sell it to people and make them fix it thierselves. im not a damn game developer and im not the one selling the damn thing so i shouldnt have to go through all this ♥♥♥♥ just to play the damn thing. it is their resonsiblity as a supplier to make sure thier ♥♥♥♥ works before they give it to the consumer. I own my own business and thats how you run one. when you let them get away with crap like this they will keep doing it. its up to you guys to make your voice heard and say "hey im not going to take this ♥♥♥♥, steam get your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ together and stop selling us ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that doesnt work without having to do all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to it ourselves!!!"
And FSO really is the bee's knees!
The missing support really shows, how much steam cares about their costumers.
There are two reasons, why i buy games here: I don't have to leave home, and the games used to work (just buy any Rockstar game on dvd and you'll know what i mean).
Since the games, purchased on steam, don't nessecarily work anymore, there is only one reason left. And honestly i'm not shure if this one reason is enough. Wouldn't it be better and cheaper, to support local businesses by buying games there and selling them to 2nd. Hand game stores after finnishing them?
