Another Steam rip off
Why would a company knowingly sell you a lemon? Actually quite a few lemons...Well steam?

The path from "lemon" to "wonderful and awesome in every way" is as simple as typing www.fsoinstaller.com into your browser address bar and following the prompts.

For craps sakes dont't you think I tried that? Darn

If you're still having trouble, try posting the problem here to get a little tech support, or head on over to www.hard-light.net. There's definitely a way to get it working, and I will personally promise that even if it takes a couple *days* to get it working (it won't) the end result will be worth it tenfold.

What a waist of money.

If you want to write-off however much you spent to buy the game, I can't rightly force you to keep trying. I sincerely hope you can get it to work though, since the mod community has taken FS2 so far beyond the next level it's not even funny.

Steam is a Joke.

its worth it, trust me. the modded version is much better than the original and it takes next to no effort to set up
Dougal Jun 12, 2014 @ 8:19pm
Well i have tried and its an effort.

"Lemon". lol. Only if "lemon" means "awesome game that's otherwise incredibly difficult to acquire legally", other than GOG, of course.

And by the way, I'd get your FSO from the official site, linked below. If you simply install FreeSpace 2, go to this site, download the automated installer from the link in the upper left, running it should be no problem. I literally just went through the process not even an hour ago. Don't patch manually or anything, just do exactly what I said.

By the way, Steam is not to blame for your technical ineptitude. ;P

This seems to be a pattern with Steam. Freespace2 came up as a reccomended game and looked good so I bought it. BAM! Money out the window! Won't run no matter how many outside sites I visit and regardless of what I download. This has got to be against the law.

Seems like a lot of Steam employees trolling us then huh?

Works fine for me. The system requirements are listed on the page, so no, they're not doing anything illegal - but really, if you had the tech savvy (or simply the ability to search through forums other than Steam), you'd be able to get it to work. It's not hard.

If you haven't installed FSO from scp.indiegames.us, do so. If you have and it still crashes or whatever, try XP compatibility modes, disabling desktop composition and themes, running as admin, etc.
