Freespace 2

Freespace 2

2014 graphics. Hundreds of mods. FreeSpace Open.
Once you've got FreeSpace 2, one of the greatest games of all time, you're ready to make it even better.

fsoinstaller.com

Get set up with FreeSpace Open. Use the MediaVPs to enhance this game's graphics to (mostly!) 2014 standards. Play hundreds of fan-made mods that continue the FreeSpace story and bring the fight to universes like Wing Commander and Battlestar Galactica.

FreeSpace Open has been in continuous development for more than ten years. And it's not just an armada of new content - it's also the tools to make your own levels. This fan trailer was built by a new user of the FRED level editor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhAR8rWPluQ

Once you own a copy of FreeSpace 2, fsoinstaller.com is your first stop. We're happy to provide tech support here or on hard-light.net/forums.

I want to be totally clear - FreeSpace Open requires a legitimate copy of FreeSpace 2! It is NOT a free version of this game. Buy the game, then get set up.

I have to agree with the General here. The original 1999 graphics are impressive even today, but the new graphics make it look 1000% better. Not to mention the untold number of hours you get from all the fan-made missions, campaigns, and mods.

To give you a small idea of what recent mods look like:

As expected of the General. So fast!
But yeah, get that FSO and all those good campaigns that go with it folks! Freespace 2 was a great game back in 1999 and it has only gotten greater over time!

It's almost been 15 years since the original release ... and this game never died but has been cared for by several "generations" of a dedicated community; the result you can check out above

ps. Is there a way to sticky this?

It's pretty much stickied by virtue of, you know, being one of exactly two threads at the moment. I'm confident that continued posting can keep it at the top anyway.

Man oh man, if we could somehow get FS2O and the SCP integrated into this (even just a mention of the project on the page!)... Even as it is, this should do a lot to get people playing FS2 again!

Just bought this at a thrift store for a dollar! Been waiting for the price to be below $9.99... Immediately downloaded the FSO installer. FS2 works a treat on Windows 8.1, full 1920 x 1080 resolution. Thanks FSO! For all of you who DON'T have it, get it! Amazing flight simulators like the Freespace series are so hard to find. The original was mindbendingly good!
Indeed, in fact, in my honest-to-god opinion, this was one of the last of the greatest genre to ever exist: space-combat

Ok, so you got the FSO installer and everything done, is there anything else that you did after using the installer? I've been trying to get FSO working on my computer and i'm running into problems left and right.
