joystick not working in freespace 2

microsoft sidewinder precision pro not working in free space.

Tried to use the game with mouse but it was frustrating.

The sidewinder is detected by window 10.

I start the game but joystick will not work.

Any ideas ?

Make sure you set your joystick to Preferred Device under the Advanced Settings in Windows Game Controller panel. Then if there is more then one showing up in the Launch drop down menu try them all.

Also make sure you have the correct flight stick selected in Knossos

I have the same issue, same controller, Microsoft Sidewinder 2. Tried all above suggestions.

I assume you are using vanilla version of FS2 and have already merged FS2.reg file to get the game running.

go to your fs2 folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Freespace 2) by default and run freespace2.exe. A menu with green background will popup. Select Setup which will bring up settings dialog box, go to the joystick tab and select detect joystick or manually select your joystick. Prefferably have only one connected at time (i haven't tried with two). Press okay. and now press play from either the green background menu or steam.

The joystick should now work.

Another pattern I notice is that everyone who thinks fsopen is a virus, always says "window" and not "windows".
