Freespace 2 Open Mod Problems
I've got some issues with FS2 Open again and it's driving me up the wall..

Most mods, either upon launching, or after I try to start the campaign, give me this error message:

Could not load in 2_CommandBrief-mb!
ntdll.dll! ZwWaitForSingleObject + 12 bytes
KERNELBASE.dll! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
fs2_open_3_7_4_SSE2.exe! SCP_DumpStack + 213 bytes

fs2_open_3_7_4_SSE2.exe! cmd_brief_init + 491 bytes
fs2_open_3_7_4_SSE2.exe! game_enter_state + 523 bytes
fs2_open_3_7_4_SSE2.exe! gameseq_set_state + 146 bytes

KERNEL32.DLL! BaseThreadInitThunk + 36 bytes
ntdll.dll! RtlInitializeExceptionChain + 143 bytes
ntdll.dll! RtlInitializeExceptionChain + 90 bytes

I have a feeling this has something to do with the mediavps files. For some reason, I am unable to actually select them from the mods. I DO have mediavps_2014 and mediavips_3612 both in the Freespace 2 folder, and the files seem to be there, yet I am unable to select them as a mod in WXLauncher (which, I believe, is how you play the Freespace 2 campaign with better graphics?)

So you know, I downloaded and installed everything except for the WXLauncher (because it was unable to download it) through the FS2O Installer. Some things failed to download and install (because the servers that host the files no longer have them, I guess) but I'm pretty sure it downloaded the mediavps stuff okay. Yet, I'm unable to select it in my mods list, and I suspect this is why many mods are not working correctly, since I believe most of them use one of those 2 mediavps folders.

Sorry for the noobishness, this is a bit more complex than most mod-related stuff I deal with, so I'm kind of lost on what I should do here. What is the problem?

Alright so, a few things. What version of the wxLauncher are you using? Are you using a nightly build, 3.7.4, or 3.8.0 RC3?

I don't know what version it is. It doesn't say in the properties or on the launcher interface itself.

The EXE has a modified date of 9/25/2015 though (this was long before I installed, earlier this year, so I'd assume this version was released at around that time?) The other files are dated from 2008 though. msvcm90.dll, msvcp90.dll, etc.

I don't even know if I downloaded the right version, I seem to remember having to hunt around a bit before I could even find a download...if the launcher is out of date, could you provide a link to the most recent version?

What about the FSO build you're using?
Iido Jul 17, 2017 @ 9:05pm
FSO build is 3.7.4.

Alright, download this wxLauncher version https://github.com/scp-fs2open/wxLauncher/releases/tag/0.12.0-rc.2
You'll need to set up your command line settings again. As for why you weren't able to find any mods, did you select fs2open-3.7.4 in wxLauncher?
Notice how there is a build selection screen in basic settings. http://puu.sh/wMq8n/f10ac6488b.png

Alright, I installed it (after uninstalling the previous version) but I'm still having the same problem. Yes, FS2 Open 3.7.4 SSE2 is selected in the basic settings.

Still no mediavps selectable in the mods, and I'm getting the same errors when trying to run most mods (Like ASW Act 1).

Just to make sure, you are supposed to install WXLauncher to the Freespace 2 folder, right? It's what I've been doing, since installing it elsewhere and running it just gives me an error. Figured it had to be in the folder.

I never said I wasn't able to find any mods. I do have mods, but the problem is when I click "Activate" and then "Play", it gives me that error I posted up above, either upon loading, or after it loads and I try to start a campaign and go to the ready room. Sometimes, clicking OK instead of cancel lets me go past it, but then I cannot click anything on the briefing/dialogue screens.

One moment, I'm gonna upload a vid to show exactly what I mean.

Okay, here, this is a vid showing what happens when I try to start up ASW Act I. The same thing happens with most other mods. https://youtu.be/kF7qQlCeg5o

Alright, so, at my wits end, I decided to delete it all and do a fresh install of Freespace 2, followed by reinstalling FSO. Now, all seems to be working fine. I've got the normal launcher, and all mods are working properly. I must have messed something up big time before.

Anyways, really glad it's all in order now. I can finally delve into these mods, and experience FS2 like never before with those sweet new visuals :D Also gotta try out Silent Threat: Reborn. I liked Silent Threat, and I'm curious how much is changed/added in Reborn. I know it's got 8 new missions, which is awesome.
