Does this work with a 360 controller?

Yes, sort of!! You can steer, roll and fire lasers and missiles. You can target things in front of you and work the afterburners. The biggest problem is I can't find anyway to work the throttle. I wouldn't mind having to use the keyboard to target nearest enemy, match speed or target subsystems, but trying to hold the A key down to accelerate while sterring with the controller is a bit tough in a dogfight. Still, it's a great game, I may just go back to all keyboard control unless someone can help with the controller set up.

i can also at the moment recommend the Antipodes fork of FSO http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=86206.0 which is basically porting most of the current(ish) base code from SDL1.2 to SDL2, giving you (among other things) access to all of the axes/buttons on a 360 controller
