1.5 unofficial patch
I was wondering if anyone here has gotten that patch to work? I tried using it but the game crashes as soon as the main menu should appear after intro stuff. My game does seem to run fine with 1.4 although I wish the in-game cutscenes worked.

You might have to move the game to a folder with short names without spaces, for example C:\Games\Descent3. The Steam 1.4 version contains a workaround for the folder name that is not in the 1.5 patch version.

Ah that was it. I tried re-naming the games folder in Steam and that worked too. In this case I have to launch the game directly from Descent 3.exe. Launching it from Steam auto updates the game back to 1.4. Thanks for the tip!
