Descent 2

Descent 2

We all paid $10 for this game over 15 years ago
Pretty much what the title says. Yes, $10 is not a lot of money, but I could buy a newly developed game with fresh ideas and developers who are actually seeing that money for $10. I'm completely sick of these retro cash grabs on the part of whatever companies own these licenses nowadays. Descent 2 in this day and age is a $5 game. I know there have been a dozen threads like this, but that right there says that the game is priced too highly.

Inflation.

Yeah I will agree its way overpriced should be $5 bucks tops.

There are hints that Descent and Descent 2 are going to get some major updates soon. That's why the price is higher. Nothing concrete, but if you look around the forum here, you'll see the occasional post from the developer hinting at it.

Last time I checked, Interplay games still owns the rights to this game, and I'd be really surprised if they want to update it.
An update to this game now, would be very illogical. Unless they're going to remake the entire game like Rise of the Traid 2013.

This is a great classic game, and worth $10. Don't know why people think it would only be $5. Wolfenstein 3d is worth $10.

I just can't see an update to the Descent series that would even remotely work. Except for the additon of the source ports that make it run better on new systems.

Yeah, as someone who's played this for nearly 20 years, I can't see updates coming anytime soon. The only thing that's been updated in the last 2 decades is 'Rebirth' (if you don't know what it is, search for Descent Rebirth on Google... it works with Steam). I'd just like to be able to submit pictures of my original retail boxes (yep, still have them) and not have to pay for this again. That said, I'm curious to see if we can revive multiplayer (anyone remember Kali? It's still alive, actually...) and if player/pilot files can be made for the cloud... Demigod just sounds so sexy :csgoglobe: (closest thing I have to a shield orb)

Well, after I posted that, I did some looking around, and I did see the dev post in another thread that updates are coming, but I'm really surprised by that.

I just don't see how this game could get updated.

Yes, this game is a classic.... I remember kicking the crap outta players in dial-up links because unlike IDs Doom I was able to fly wherever whenever. Yet... I also remember latency being a mtrfkr and even using direct link I would sometimes lose connection and have to restart a game. This being said... this game is not worth more then $5 for the nostalgia factor of being one of the first game to be PvP in 3d space. Unless the DEV has perma servers hosting F2P games and new arenas to play in with mod support and guaranteed upgrades I think they are being too greedy and should go kick start themselves and revamp a new-gen Decent.... Which I would personally love to see.

F2P? This game costs money to buy, automatically negates F2P.
And I'm sorry, but mod support for Descent 1 and 2? You mean the very large amount of levels made over many many years?
I've only heard of one mod for Descent 2 and it was a total conversion with new weapons.

And there are apparently going to be new updates to this game, somehow,

I just don't think you understand what greedy means. $10 is not world endingly bad to price this game.
Moraff's World is still $10 to buy, and it's extremely obscure.
This game is well worth $10, and I don't see why anyone would complain about $10.
I've been playing games since I was 5 and a half years old, in 1987, trust me, I understand Nostalgia. :)
I will indeed buy this game on Steam, not at the moment, but soon.

Catfish - multiplayer is still alive but I think the bulk of it has moved off Kali now. A couple relevant links:

Take a look at http://www.preparefordescent.com. Interplay isn't involved in this project YET but they know about it, and I have good reasons for a strong suspicion it's at least influenced their decision to suddenly put Descent on Steam and promise big updates.
Personally, I won't be buying the games on Steam until the updates happen, I don't have the money to spend on something I already own.

Interplay isn't involved here, technically, The new company, founded by the remains of Interplay members is what's reviving this game series.
I forgot their name though.
