There are many similar games like Aquanox, or Battle Race 3D or maybe your confusing with Mechwarrior

OMG this game....^^ i played this so much when i was a child :D

this was one of those games like Doom that you could get as sharware (remember shareware? what a fantastic business model. You know, for gamers, maybe not so much for developers), so the floppy disks made the rounds. I got mine from the clerk at the local radioshack. I was 12. It was awesome.
