I hope this will help you :

If memory serves me, it works with the Steam version as well.
Good luck and have fun.
Goodbye.
Yours Sincerely, Tom from Hungary
Thanks Tom
Update: Just installed and ran the DX1 rebirth (for Descent) and DX2 Rebirth (for Descent 2) that Tom recommended. Absolutely fantastic! OpenGL support, widescreen support for all resolutions, UDP/TCP networking support (vice old IPX), dynamic lighting, vsync, anistropic filtering, and a wide range of joysticks supported. Thanks a million for the info Tom!
You're welcome, mate.
It is pretty straightforward and easy to install and play, compared to other old and (since then,) updated DOS-based games.
Goodbye.
Yours Sincerely, Tom from Hungary
Yeah, it is, plus it has a lot of other new features as well and giving new options to the 'Settings' part of the game. Not as many features and options like Zandronum does with the Doom games, but it will satisfy your hunger for some HD space rampage.
Plus it helps the game to run above its standard DOSBox speed, means that the official Steam-based game is running somewhere between 20 and 40 FPs, but this HD version is running above 60 FPS all the time. It pleases the eye.
I highly recommend it, Sean!
Goodbye.

Good choice, ahaha!

My bad, they are using a Descent 2 thumbnail to advertise Descent 1 ;)
Whoa, this is GLORIOUS; thank you so much for posting that link! Not only drastically improved the graphics, but fixed the problem of no sound with the Steam version. Thanks again!
Simple and easy instructions, worked first attempt.
Game runs in hi-res and looks amazing now.
Thank you Tom from Hungary!
Would throw down 200$ large without even blinking at a Descent reboot
Instead we all should be thankful for these fine ladies / gentlemen for bringing back these old games into this new era of high definition craziness.
So I bow to every one of these skilled modders for making these old gems up-to-date.
Thanks.
Yours Sincerely, Tom from Hungary
btw strike vector is similar
René, I suppose Interplay still holding the rights for the Descent titles.
" I suppose ", because the last time when Bethesda wanted to make a Fallout MMO, people at Interplay went ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about it and they were bringing the whole case to the courthouse.
At that time I was thinking, "Hey, wasn't Interplay going into a defunct state a few years ago? I thought all of their titles are abandonware or freeware nowadays, but it seems not."
About a new Descent...I would gladly join a Kickstarter project if a good team would announce a new Descent game. I would fund it.
Originally, Volition made Descent 4 (cause the Volition members were mostly from the Parallax Software team), but because of the disappointing sales of Descent 3, it was never really finished and most of the programming and work which went to Descent 4 later became Red faction 1.
Goodbye.
