Over 9000 Zombies!

Game fails to open / opens incorrectly?
Hey, so I just bought a 2-pack for me and a friend today, when I tried to start the game, it failed to open.
It never opened through steam nor launcher, until I started it as an administrator, then, it opened, but to my friend it appears as I'm playing "Spacewar", while in reality I'm actually playing "Over 9000 Zombies" and we're unable to play together, since I can't join his lobby, and when I invite him to mine, his steam start "Spacewar".

Hi,

I would guess your computer is missing the XNA Runtime (Download: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20914 ). Try installing that, then reboot your computer and launch the game again.

If that doesn't fix the issue, post here again and we can look at the specific error message and track the issue down :) Thanks for being patient!

That is rather strange! First, remove the game, and then reinstall it if you haven't tried that already. Sometimes an install can get corrupted. Also try disabling any anti-virus and running the game as administrator.

Assuming that doesn't work, go to Control Panel, then go to Administrative Tools, then Event Viewer (or if you are on Windows 10, you can just search for "Event Viewer")

Once you are in event viewer, click on and expand Windows Logs (on the left side of the screen), and then click Application. Somewhere in that list you will see up to two error logs for the game (it can help to launch the game prior to checking the error logs so it is near the top of the list), please post the contents of both here. Those error logs should state more specifically what is going wrong.

Thanks for your patience!

Btw, this only happens when I start the game normaly, if I start as an administrator I can play but only single player since it says I'm playing spacewar and so I can't enter any servers nor invite friends.

That is strange.. It seems there might be some weird permissions going on on your computer. I would first disable an AV just to be safe. Then I would start Steam itself as administrator, and then start the game as administrator. Then try the game again.

It seems like the Steamworks.dll is failing to inject into the game (which is why it thinks its Spacewar). 99% of the time it is AV that will do this. Does this issue occur with any other games?

Turned off AV, started steam as admin, started Over 9000 Zombies as admin, still says I'm playing spacewar, and no, it doesn't happen with any other game.

Could you take a screenshot of the file directory of the game? Make sure there is a steamworks.dll in there.

I guess I don't have that file, and I tried to uninstall and install just now (with AV and firewall turned off) and still no file.

Everything seems fine (I meant to says Steamworks. Net. dll, my apologies, o), but just in case, right click on the game in your library, go to properties, then click the local files tab. Then click the button that says "Verify Integrity of Game Cache..."

I am sort of baffled at this point, this is certainly a unique problem as no one before you has had this issue. That leads me to believe there must be something else interacting with the game, especially since it changes from not launching to launching by running as administrator. If there was something wrong with your XNA install it wouldn't ever launch, so it can't be that.

Your steam profile says you have played 62 hours of "Space War", are you sure this hasn't been happening on other games? Something strange must be going on, out of curiosity what Anti-Virus software do you use?

I have 62 hours of Spacewar cause I've played a pirated version of Rocket League before buying the actual game, and since it was pirated it appeared as Spacewar. I use Avira, but it's completely turned off right now.

Ah, out of curiosity how did the pirated version of rocket league work? It would almost seem something else is interfering with the Steam.dll related files. I ask this because often pirated Steam games use software to change the .dll files and the way they hook into the game. Have you completely removed all the software related to the pirated version of Rocket League?

Yes, a long time ago, like I told you, Over 9000 Zombies is the only game having this problem for me.

Unfortunately, I am not sure how to proceed from here. Nothing seems to be specifically going wrong with the game itself (e.g. like bad code somewhere), but rather it appears to be an external conflict of some sort. Since we have ruled out AV, and the game's cache is verified, I am not sure what is wrong. I suspect the problem lies somewhere in the security side of things since running as administrator proves to be a partial fix. You may want to consider reinstalling steam itself, since some core steam files may have been altered by the RL crack.

If that fails, short of asking you to reinstall windows, I don't know what else to try. This may be a case where you want to initiate a refund, and I do apologize for the trouble.

I won't ask for a refund tbh, the game is awesome, shame I can only play single player, multiplayer with friends would be a whole lotta funnier. Still, I had my eyes in your game since a long time ago, and out of nowhere I remembered to go check it out and it was on sale, the luck of a lifetime :P
Amazing game, shame you can't solve my problem, keep up the good work man!
