regarding importing custom brushes/alphas
I understand Substance does not have support for .abr files but is there a workflow to convert them and import them as a format that can be read by the program and still used in the same manner? I have a large collection that works in Photoshop/Mari and would love to transition them into Substance painter.

Hi,

We don't have a method for converting. However, you could create an alpha of the PS brush and use that as the alpha in Painter. By alpha, I'm referring to the shape of the brush, You would need to create the "alpha" map in PS using the brush and save this as a image.

Cheers,

Wes

that worked perrfectly thank you. now i just need to figure out how to recreate the same brush behavior that the substance ones have like the randomization in the stroke. I assume thats done in substance desighner somehow.

Yes, you would use SD for this. You could create a Substance in SD that allows you to choose from your different alphas. You can then add modifiers to the alphas to change the shape of the alpha. Here you would expose the parameters you want to have available in SP. Then you publish this substance and import it into SP.

Cheers,
