Opacity to mesh in Painter
I couldn't find a viable solution to add opacity to a mesh, so I thought I'd ask away on here. I want to know how to add the opacity to the mesh, nothing else, I'd like some details too. Anyone point me in the right direction?

EDIT: I want to create an transparent material, hence the question.

You need to add an Opacity channel

From the layers channel, or elsewhere else?

I have this question too, adding the opacity channel does not show any difference to the viewport, so I can paint on this layer, but it just does not affect anything on screen.

Hi,

You need to switch the shader. In the viewport settings, choose one of the PBR shaders that includes opacity. There is alpha test and alpha blending shader. Once you switch the shader, you will see the opacity in the viewport.

Cheers,

Wes

I've done the above, but can't see the opacity, what am I doing wrong?

1. Switch to the shader which includes alpha
2. Above the channels, there's a PLUS SIGN on a tiny button. Click it and add an Opacity channel.
3. In this example, create a fill layer.
4. In the properties of the fill layer, you'll see color, height, op, rough and metal. Make sure OP is selected. You can now change the greyscale value with a slider, thus selecting what opacity this surface has.

You could also use any brush to paint opacity if you'd like, or make a mask and select which parts of the object is effected by this opacity value.

Thanks Wes,

I was just missing the alpha shader, now it's working.
