There is no way to see it for now, but Painter should handle quite a lot of polygons. The beast I used in the trailer is around 250k.
I saw your thread and just for fun I exported a 1.5 million poly sculpt from zbrush. It took a couple of minutes to load into SP, but after that there was no lag with rotating the mesh or painting with the brushes. The only time I had a little lag (about a second) was when I spammed the burn particles on the head.
I'm not sure when I would need to take such a high poly non-game optimized model into SP (maybe for cut-scenes models) but I'm impressed!

BTW. I'm using an Nvidia GTX 760 with 4GB VRAM, DX11, AMD Athlon II x4 630 processor 2.8Ghz (turbo boosted to 3Ghz), 8GB RAM
I am glad it handles polygons well and I like that the textures don't have the filtering that SD4 has... I honestly don't like the filtering...
GTX 760 is 2200GFLOPS power, i use Nvidia Quadro FX 2800M on my pc laptop which has 360 GFLOPS and it works very slow painting default model. i have Radeon HD 6970M on my imac which has 1305 GFLOPS and it works fine with substance painter.
