Masks are black and white (or greyscaled) If your diffused is colored, try converting it to greyscale and import it to the project and use it as a material for the mask.

Other than that, there is the color picker masking tool. (but I'm not sure if you can control the amount of black/white that is applied to the mask from the color chosen... maybe a color picker/filter combination on the mask might be required to do it. Haven't tried.)

Hi,

You can't use the diffuse as a mask. The layer and mask stacks can't share data. You can create a bitmap mask which allows you to add an image imported into Painter. However, the image needs to be grayscale.

Cheers,
Wes
