DirectX 8.1

When I launch the game, it reports the following error, Check that you have DirectX 8.1 or higher and that your graphics card meets the minimum requirements. But I have DirectX12 and the card is a Radeon 580X . How can I fix it?

it has to be deleted from both the generals game folder and the zero hour folder.
make sure your running a supported resolution the highest you can do without installing gentool is 1024×768 and 1920 x 1080.

alternatively just install genpatcher.

I used GenPatcher (apply all fixes and install GenTool) and deleted the files in the Generals and ZH folder. The game didn't start. I was about to give up but then I tried running the game from the desktop shortcut with administrator rights and it worked for me. Super happy now. Maybe this will help someone.
