He's not the only one. You can also play through Radmin, much easier than CC Online.
Of course, it would be easier through Steam, but as I understand it, Steam is not an option.
lol wrong. Complete pain in the ass with any modern antivirus. when the game was originally released via disk there were no issues getting up and running in an MP match minus the NORMAL bugs associated with any game at that time, but this is not normal. Simply not the case now as its re-release didn't address any issue that was certainly known prior to release involving compatibility and coding to allow play.
Using Genlauncher etc isn't a big deal and most would be fine doing so except it still is quite the undertaking for anyone, let alone someone who may not have the knowledge or comfort in doing a ton of things to make a purchased game simply work
I've been a pc gamer for 30+ years and i'm still finding it quite cumbersome to make this work
2. yes there was issues with the disk release as there was a limited number of serial keys produced with the disk versions running into player not being able to join the same lobby's unless someone changed it in the registry.
3. running genlauncher is beyond simple, it's literally drop in the folder and run then select what mod you want to install.
the game hasn't worked correctly since windows vista and as iv stated in a few other discussions its not EA's fault that it doesn't.
the issues with this game and why it has problems running are all on Microsoft.
1. Dx11 and 12 removed the binary's for dx8 resulting in the dx8 error.
2. Several dll's were removed from the os and future vc++ packages after windows xp which resulted in older games not running well or at all, msvc100.dll for example.
3. a no cd is needed (inc in steam and origin versions) due to Microsoft blocking the disk protection which older games inc generals uses.
4. the options.ini issue causing the game to not even launch is due to modern os' vista and up requiring elevated permissions to make changes to the documents folder which wasnt required for xp/me/98.
all in all, these issues with a 21 year old game are not up to EA to fix, they are up to Microsoft to fix and provide better support for older software.
it's not up to the user to just figure it out.... and yes EA is responsible if theyre allowing a game to be sold that doesnt work without jumping through a lot of hoops Generally most all re-release games arent just dumped out with no effort. They tend to at least made some effort to make sure the majority of people will no problems playing it or at the very least minimal problems.
I should not have to completely uninstall and scrub the existence of my Anti-virus to install a game (which looks to be my solution but if you know a better way i'm down lol)
