Handle needed

Hello, I am quite at the beginning of the game. Want to forge my first dagger. When I want to cut my wood at the sawing station it says "Handle needed". What does that mean ? I tried to buy a handle from the merchants but nobody has one. Maybe I am too dumb. Please help.

Do you have any wood? I can't remember if you start with any at the start.
There is a merchant that sells wood, same one that sells ores. Once you have wood it will show up outside next to the ore and near the wood cutting station.
Pickup a piece of wood with Left Click then you can use(interact) with the wood cutting station.
By handle it should probably say piece of wood/tree. As it's not a handle until after we cut it.

Wood for handles are named as follows when hovering over them:
Snow Tree
Cloud Tree
Ebony Tree
Emarald Tree
River Nut Tree
Sarmiosa Tree

I bought wood but there is none next to the ore or the cutting station. Got 5 pieces of wood in the inventory.

Hmm. They should to the left of the wood cutting station in the wooden racks standing vertically. I'll go grab a screenshot

They should be listed as Handle in the inventory screen and automatically populate on the racks.
