Is there anything Tangible beyond the Smithing portion?
The Smithing in this game looks quite fun and nuanced. I also like grindy games in general. I like building towards things.

Though it seems like this is one of those games where you will establish your Smithing empire and then feel like there is not a large enough scope of gameplay to incentivize playing beyond basic progression.

I caught a glimpse of the tournament feature in a video, but have still yet to find an actual demonstration of how that plays out. I get the impression that combat in this game is implemented only on a very basic level and is presumably not going to be that fulfilling.

The scope of mining operations appears to be quite limited also. I half expected that you could venture down into caverns and more treacherous regions, having to fight past skeletons and beasts to access higher quality minerals.

I think that would be quite a fantastic dynamic in terms of Smithing progression as it would give more purpose and motivation to hone your craft in ways that are effectual in combat. It would at least incentivize experimentation in the context of necessitating differing weapon classes and characteristics to counter specifics threats who guard precious ores.

Who knows, maybe you reach a point where you will in fact need a certain magic infusion just to be viable in unique biomes/locations. Perhaps you could even find ancient diagrams for exotic weapons that way. That mechanic might even illicit contracts from nobility for speciality weapons.

Nope. Just blacksmithing, the decision based story, and tournaments/holy war. Tournaments are fun until you figure out how to one shot people then it just becomes a chore. There is no combat control so its basically a less goofy Totally Accurate Battle System. There are also no cool moves your guy can make (except I did see my guy do a dark souls dodge and that was sick) so its not that fun to watch either.

I haven't gotten to the holy war yet cause it requires 6 fighter slaves but Im almost certain it'll be the same thing as the tournaments, just more men. However, I haven't fought Gorlock yet. THAT will be cool, seeing tons of little men run after this beast. Im keeping my expectations low so I don't hate the game if it doesn't happen tho.

Thanks for that info.

Yeah, that is a bit unfortunate. I could see this game becoming one of my favourites if only it was more expansive. The mining aspect in particular looks like it has a tonne of potential.

I would definitely enjoy the Smithing, but as I have seen in videos, its a pretty short-lived affair in terms of continuity. In one such video a guy went from shabby daggers to 10k weapons in just an hour or two.

I know there exists potions and other fluff but these features are all a relatively solitary extension of Smithing that don't add much variety of gameplay. It would be great to break up potential monotony with dungeon/cavern exploration. It seems they were already going that route with Tournaments, which is good provided the combat model is acceptable.

Watched so many videos but still on the fence about it. Fingers crossed they flesh out the game some more. Pretty good foundation they already have.

Yeah I'm not sure if the game is gonna get huge content updates in the coming years, we can only hope. However, the story is really good, much better than most if not all simulator games I've played. So if you really like decision based stories, I actually would recommend the game despite there being a lack of tangible things to do.

Yeah, I guess for the asking price there's not a huge amount of risk in it. Granted I am one of those people that don't typically bother with games unless I can dig-in for the long-haul.

I'd say I'm going to have a lot of fun with the mining. I'm grinding my teeth at the fact that they didn't put some enemies down the mining roads as a test of metal to access rarer materials. That would have been such a nice touch.

I was at the same time envisioning a scenario in which there are blockades/gatehouses separating different sections requiring that you forge a special key to access beyond that point. The key in question needing to be perfectly crafted out of rare ore possibly only acquired from monsters lurking in the area.

At any rate, thanks again for the insight.
