story is a downgrade over VIII AND IX
even IX had more mystery going on. X is so predictable and simple.

Still better than Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes.

Simple, yet enjoyable. Although the adventure factor is the most important for me, which this part fulfilled, as did every other Ys game I've played (yet to complete 6&7). Out of 8-10 I like it the least, but still had good time. Even though it's overpriced.

9 and X kind of similar but 9 is more cringe they're like some kind of power ranger fighting evil. This game plot twist is even better than 9 tho.

I feel like 9's plot twist would have felt a lot more substantial if Lost Kefin was actually available to purchase and play in some form. All of the other references to the past games felt really cool, but the whole alchemy cloning plot twist kinda came out of left field for someone like me who never got the chance to play 5 but played all the rest of the games.

It's a godd*mn shame but yes you're right. I'm an alltime fan of the series and played all of the titles (and love IX), but I dropped this one after rescuing Lila and her reveal. Otherwise I would die of sheer cringe and boredom.

Ys games having a great story is less common than not. I thought everyone played for the gameplay? Ngl both IX and X had tremendously boring story parts, so much so that I skipped some scenes. The combat is fun, though I think they spread themselves too thin by adding water combat and exploration, so land level design isn't as good and has tons of invisible walls/less freedom than VIII or IX.

imo i enjoyed the smaller scope of it.

does every Ys game need a universe destroying threat?

No, but the story should be at least engaging in an Ys with the modern formula. The characters besides Adol, Karja, Grenn and Dogi can't rescue the sinking ship as they're all boring and/or cringe, too. Even the combat grows stall pretty fast.
Sadly this game is too much quantity over quality.

I agree that X's story was the weakest out of the most recent entries in the series, though I preferred IX most of all. Yeah, you could say it was a little cringe, or 'chuuni,' but I thought 8's story kind of recapitulated 7's with the whole 'breaking the cycle' thing, whereas with IX I wasn't expecting the antagonist to kind of have an understandable reason for his schemes that got out of hand rather than being purely malevolent, as the "malice" in this game was. At least disregarding the odd metaphysical meandering it sorta got into...

Ys 9 story(and boss) literally need references from other ys game because how weak the story is. They even need to use past character(appears in shiny orb form) to make the story a lil bit appealing.

9 was Adol's chūnibyō phase
I agree.
Not like X is bad, it's enjoyable, but VIII and IX are better.
