ENDER MAGNOLIA: Bloom in the Mist

minor peeve
just wanted to bring something up that i love and hate and was curious how many people felt the same. in lillies you got loads of stands, but only the umbral knight had any real story significance, with dialogue i mean not worldbuilding.
while you do get less stands in magnolia, i love how they are given more story significance. im also pretty cool with the idea of getting non combat stands like hati, motley and lars. my fave is shackled beast.
what bugs me a little is that you can only use one ability at a time, and since each character is specialised, that means you cant go all counters or guns. i legit loved the counter abilities in lillies and i dont think i could have beaten knight captain julius without them. beast is great but hes literally the only counter stand option and you cant exactly spam him. does anyone else find it a little limiting for builds? i do love how each characters abilities work in specific ways too btw, it adds to their personality.
im not sure how they could solve this issue in the next game, and i dont think they even really should since its just a different style to the first and it might just be me.

I feel like too many counters would be too much. Especially with the cooldown timer, and the fact that you can use the ults for avoiding damage as well. I do personally like the headless defender counter a lot more than shacked beast though.

Regular parry can be quite useful too, but not as forgiving.

What I do miss is Ulv's charge attack, my favorite attack in the first game. Gone, reduced to ashes.

I'm of the mindset that we could have made counter it's own thing with timings based on the skill and removed the regular counter, if only to have more reasons to use the various homonculi we get, a dedicated slot for each type as it were, with only 4 slots and so many options, I end up only using a couple and ignoring the rest, feels a bit bad.

Regular attacker, cooldown, counter, automated, break, and so on, with the passive ones being fine as is. I just really like the idea of summoning aid to help you in combat, but I am not against how the game does it now, I just want to be using everyone more and I got so many now that I had to bench shackled beast for the time being.
i get what you mean, the drill shot for yolvan is awesome as hell, but its just nowhere near as practical as being able to aim up and down with him, as its the best way to deal with wall enemies. i would love to be able to use both on one build.
you tend to pick one ability someone has and stick with it. blazing fist was good but its nowhere near as good as glacial fist and rocket punch is just worthless next to yolvans bullets.
I personally like that you can only use one ability per homunculus, as otherwise I feel like you would be incentivized to stack only one type of ability to get infinite counter loops or blast an enemy with 3 cooldown attacks at once. It ended up being more fun to have a different use case for each ability so that you have to think about when to use each one.

I used Rocket Fist the whole game and it's great, it does a crazy amount of damage with a very low cooldown compared to the other abilities.

you have infinite parry's with the carapaces

Which count as counters since you damage the enemy... and with the relic that gives 40% extra parry damage... you end with 500HP damage per spammable counter.

Timing can get tight, but most bosses, I could kill without roll/dash.
Imagine being able to equip even two Shackled Beast counters, you would just use them in rotation and and the cooldowns wouldn't matter.

Imagine being able to use both the gun and the drill, you'd just stunlock everything.

These are only some of the reasons why they restricted it to just 1 equipped ability per party member.

Having said that, I think the weapons were more fun and diverse in Lilies. In Magnolia you only get 3 weapons and Scythe is just much better that the other 2. Whereas in Lilies you had 5 weapons: sword, great hammer, hammer, claws and lance, and they were all great and unique. The claws with their charged grab attack that transitioned into an explosion, were insanely fun. The great hammer was slow but literally sent the enemies flying, which was so satisfying. The lance had a lot of range. And so on.
