Velgrynd absolutely sucks.
Seriously, this is by FAR the single worst boss encounter in both Ender games.

The hitboxes are completely bogus for most of his melee attacks. The second phase AoE is completely unavoidable if you happen to be too close to a wall, and because the game gives you absolutely no i-frames in AoE or gas attacks you can easily be one shot from max HP and even if it doesn't one shot you it sets you on fire. For some reason the encounter area is smaller than the bosses range of travel so he can hide half his body outside of the viewable space and then melee attack you and you can't see anything to do anything about it until it's too late. He's a massive HP sponge, and even his basic swings hit you for half health even if you're appropriately levelled and have every HP upgrade up to that point, the two handed swing with the worst hitbox hits for 2/3rds of your health and for some reason randomly hits you twice one shotting you.

Velgrynd is just an absolutely miserable boss towards the end of an otherwise fun game.

I beat the game and the only 2 bosses I actually consider bullsh*t are the academy sorceress (Loincloth or wahtever she's called) with her infinitely respawning healbots in phase 1 and 2, and the arena tower where you have to beat 4 bosses back to back, and each of them have moves that 2shot or 3shot you.

I don't remember Velgrynd at all, which boss is this one?

Yeah, I'm at a wall with Velgrynd currently, took a break and gonna come back to him tonight. He's the only boss that surpassed Garm for difficulty so far, the head sorceress fell just behind him. Arena fight was medium difficulty, took a couple tries. Velgrynd just sucks because you can't control his movement at all, and certain patterns can make it almost impossible to avoid attacks. Pair that with it being pretty much suicide to melee, and him having huge HP and damage, and half his attacks requiring nearly frame-perfect dodges... and it gets ugly fast. Feel like I'm probably gonna have to cycle through spirits until I find whatever combo happens to be the answer for the fight, rather than just using the ones I like and learning the boss.
Just reached Velgrynd as well, and ♥♥♥♥ me this boss is absurd. It's walking out of the arena, any melee hits me for well over half my health (which is a fair bit more than a single heal can restore), only the top half can be damaged, it has projectile spam attacks with 0 iframes that can insta-kill you, it's immune to being broken/staggered/whatever, it can inflict status effects, and the hitboxes on the melee are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ massive.

Game was really fun to start, but it starts to become a wild vacillation between "way too easy" and "excessive difficulty due to random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" by this point.
i got his timing down then he pulled out some laser cannons. i was so surprised that the other one is so weak he doesnt even have a respite in front of him lol. he is VERY brutal. im going to have to come to him later and see what his second phase tricks are my hands are done for today lol.

i got through the first phase with nola and dodging, its a lot easier than it looks. his worst attack is the sliding slash, the hitbox is a bit odd on that one and it hits for so much you dont really get long to figure it out.

Velgrynd could really use a stagger meter at bare minimum, yeah. I found him engaging but I was going into it after a while just going "okay as long as I can learn parry timings for his attacks/learning his tricks I'll be good", but he's a frustrating boss and I'm sure this is going to be a wall for a lot of players.

This boss requires you to be on the move a lot, so I threw on Bombard for my 4th ability and let him cook while I focused on memorizing the timing for the boss' punches. This boss teaches you not to greed by humbling you with back-to-back strikes that will either two-shot or at the least put you within an inch of death.

Throw on the relic that increases your aerial damage, and pick either scythe or axe for Nola, since they're aoes they'll have a much easier time connecting with the boss' hitbox. From there, it's just learning to dodge the boss' swipes. I fought this guy in the air 99% of the time, so I learned to evade, attack, quickly touch the floor to reset my dodge, and go back on the offensive. The laser beams that make the ground explode is easily dodged by being dead center with the boss, in the air too if you want to be sure the explosions don't touch you.

When the boss has half his body outside of the arena making his melee attacks near impossible to react against, back off. It'll bait him into charging you which is a ridiculously easy move to get away from. Run towards him, jump and dash into Velgrynd and the attack will never hit you.

The attack where he spits out A LOT of fireballs every which way, either stand far enough back to give yourself breathing room for dodges, or run up to him and Attuner Art him point blank.

This is how I beat this guy, of course there are plenty of other strats.

Yeah this is about how i beat him too, minus Bombard. Nola's scythe was super helpful here, since it has a big hitbox, but staying in the air as much as you can will help massively with being able to dodge attacks. The laser beams that don't lock on are limited range too, so you can run far away from him and the fire explosions won't hit you.

I def agree that running away to bait him into moving into a better position is vital - he can move, and quite fast, so make him move to you. You CAN parry through his fireball spam in phase 2 if you're really spicy but attuner arting through it will work (or just run away lol that's what i did).
Senki Jan 25 @ 3:57pm
eh if you use the parry he's very easy and the timing is not hard to get

The only bosses that really annoyed me are the sorceress with heal bots and the true form of the final boss
i figure lorna will make velgrynd a lot easier since she will just deal constant high damage as long as im near.
i did notice you dont seem to carapace parry the fireballs which kind of sucks.

You can carapace parry the fireballs, its just way harder to time in phase 2
i did notice its a LOT more intense in phase 2. is there a good place to stay during that or does he still fire those lasers during it?

You can abuse Declan's ring at that point. You are effectively immortal if you equip it and use half crow and witch with drill and lightning. The immense multihit will keep you alive.

If you got Aizen waifu going underwater under the forest, the factory bosses are toasted too.
Wait, where exactly is Velgrynd? I remember encountering him, and I don't remember beating him (I think I did a break on that part), but I don't have grey areas on the map, and I can access actual final boss. Is it optional, and his room just marked as completel, or is it mandatory, and I'm just spacing out on the fact that I've beaten him?

Arcane Factory, one room to the left of the Control Center respite.

Ahh, that one. No, I think I've got him confused with some boss in end-game area. I didn't had a lot of issues with this one. But I also don't remember the build I've used on him.
