Just because he designed some characters doesn't mean the story is canon, by that logic Road to Ninja movie & Mecha Naruto are canon. Unless Kishimoto specifically mentions they are canon they stay filler.

Just because Kishimoto designed it, doesn't make it canon. If it isn't in his original work and manuscript (the manga) it is non canon. Kishimoto had a hand in some of the movies too and you can't get more non canon than that.

As for what's canon, the way Deidara was recruited is as it's in the manga. They didn't go into much detail on how some of them were recruited in the manga. How Kisame was recruited goes directly against the canon. Originally, Orochimaru was paired with Itachi and he tried to steel Itachi's eyes. After that Orochimaru left/was kicked from Akatsuki and Kisame was recruited in his place.

Of course it's canon, if you've seen up to the 377th episode of Shippuden you'll realise it's canon since that's how the Akatsuki formed, you'll know that Tobi/Madara did indeed go to Itachi and ask him to joint he Akatsuki, as he would also be able to watch over Sasuke from their organisation. I remember a flashback episode where Kisame and Itachi go to find Deidara and ask him to join the akatsuki. I even remember when Tobi/Madara appears before Konan and Nagato/Pain and tells Pain that he will be the leader of Akatsuki.

There is new animated footage that was made specifcally for the game, but the whole point of the "story" to this game was to give some depth to how the Akatsuki formed, and it has taken core snippets from the actual anime itself too.

oh my silly bros.. arguing about what is filler and not..
if cyberconnect2 or tv tokyo etc. would create a character or make an origin story for existed character[both had been made] and even they say "kishi-sensei approves this" AND EVEN kishi-sensei himself confirms that, it's still like half canon.. I mean, guys.. this person, masashi kishimoto, doesn't make video games. nor he's the head of an animation team. he has a story. and he gives us that by drawing manga. everything he says in manga is canon. that's not questionable, as you know. but you anime followers have seen so much filler episodes and since you don't read original work, you can't just tell what is canon and what is not. so you just accept it. I know guys enjoy fillers.. I don't judge them. and I just can't. that's cool. but if there's something to be told, kishi-sensei draws that. and ANYTHING non-manga related is simply filler. "kishimoto helped them to design mecha-naruto" well, wtf is a mecha naruto? right? "they show us how akatsuki formed" we learned enough about that from manga. those details, those lines and stuff is just imagination of develop team. it's true that they go and ask stuff and kishi-sensei helps them on those stuff but it's just "filler". those companies has a schedule and when they give to much canon or too fast, either they go another filler season or they take a break. they have to.
anyways long story short,

TLDR;

please, if someone who reads manga tells you the ♥♥♥♥ you have been asking is filler, don't make him tell that twice. it's simple as that.

No and people who don't even own the game should stop feeling so bad about people who did buy it knowing full well what the game contains and having a blast with its story content and the enhanced gameplay, they should feel sorry for them pirating a game they say it's not worth the time (mupheminsani and many other "sailors" present on this forum).

I dont mean to be THAT guy but just because it is written by Kishimoto doesnt make it cannon, he would have to acknowledge it for that to happen. Take for instance bleach, Tite Kubo did some of the filler in that but that doesnt necessarily make it cannon. A good case FOR cannon would be Fairy Tail and how Hiro Mashima actually referenced the Infinity Clock Arc in the manga. BTW Itachi went to Tobi/Obito for several reasons but the biggest wast to keep an eye on Akatsuki to protect konoha from the inside.

How can it be canon if in game Orochimaru joined Akatsuki after Itachi and in anime it was opposite? Also Kakuzu had few partners before Hidan who he killed and in game he just teamed up with Hidan.

it's definitely not worth the "money", 50$ to be exact, that's what I'd say.
"I am sorry" for not convincing people to get a 50$ upgrade. and I support good work. ninja storm series done a great job so far but game is repetitive. so they must offer that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story mode and offer that well. when they cut some part off, I feel sad cause I know they could have done it and it'd be awesome(kisame-guy fight. so sad)
so don't get so judgemental. cause those people you mentioning, they don't exist. check the forums. you only see "we got ripped off"-ish comments.. I wonder, do you even own the game...
