Teleporter to Lair won't work: Stuck in beginning mission: Beneath the Castle
I had a crash to the steam desktop just as I was finishing the first board, when you fight your way to the teleporter to reach the Secret Lair. When I reloaded the game, the teleporter to the Secret Lair isn't labelled. And no matter what I click, it won't activate. So here I am, stuck 37 minutes into the game, and cannot progress. I tried to start a new game with my imported character from VH1, but that's not an option; they are now tied to this bugged save. So what now? Do I wait for technical support to address my problem through this forum !?!? Final thought: VH1 played rock solid and I had a blast playing it. But with VH2 starting like this now !? And there's no way I can even think of purchasing VH 3 with VH 2 like this....

Try this first:

Directions for Verifying the Local cache files for "The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing II":

- Exit the game completely.

- Right click "The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing II" in your Steam Library(ctrl+click for Macs)

- Go to "Properties" in the drop-down menu. Click it.

- Go to the Local Files tab and click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache"

- Let the program run. This may take up to five or ten minutes.

- Once the program finishes, close your Steam Browser.

- Fully Exit Steam by right-clicking the icon in the Toolbar and selecting "Exit" in the dropdown.

- Restart Steam

You might need to attempt the verify two or three times for it to stick. Check between each attempt to see if it worked.

I tried what you said. Went through the verification process four times....and even tried to swtich it up between xbox 360 controller and regular keyboard and mouse.....Sorry, no difference. Nothing "stuck." Teleporter remains unlabelled and unusable......(and Journal entry has a check mark next to Prologue - Reach the Secret Lair ? like the game thinks I've passed that point ???)

Okay, next trick would be this:

- While in-game, Tap the "Enter" key to open the chat window.

- Type, without quotation marks, the following: "/FixLair"

- Tap the "Enter" key again.

This console command usually fixes any issues with the Lair and Teleportation.

I tried that already.....19:45:20.203 /Fix Lair 19:45:20.206 Command Execution completed. But nothing changes ! I reboot the game. No difference......... Teleporter still not functional.

Can you use the Town Portal spell (default hotkey "T") to teleport to the Lair that way?

And additionally, are you using a Gamepad, or mouse/keyboard?

Good question....and the answer is "No." I can't teleport to the Lair. When I press T using keyboard/mouse combination, nothing happens. When I start the game using a gamepad (Xbox 360 controller)....nothing happens. I have a graphic glitch in the lower left corner over part of the health bar (a white box) and I can't get the last teleporter to activate. Otherwise, all other functions seem to be normal. But even when I do /FixLair and the game says the command executed, nothing changes immediately, or or reboot.

Okay. The only thing I can suggest short of a scorch-and-burn would be to see if you can start a new character and progress properly with that. If so, then it's the specific save file that is corrupted, and it will need to be fixed by someone at NeocoreGames tech support. If a new character suffers tyhe same issue, then move on to the next paragraph.

The next step would be to completely uninstall the game, including making sure you clear all registry entries, and do a clean install of the game. I recommend a third-party uninstaller to make sure you get absolutely everything.

I'll try a re-install. I could start a new game, but I want to keep playing with the same character....so I'll try a re-install. Will that remove the old corrupted save game file, but still keep my old character file from VH1 intact (I assume VH1 and VH2 keep separate save game files....) And thanks for the help!

It will depend on the uninstaller you use. The most comprehensive ones will remove the VH2 save files; some of the less advanced ones, including Windows Uninstaller in some cases, will not remove save files or certain registry entries.

If you're okay with losing the imported save and starting that character over again, then you can just delete the save itself first and start that specific character over with a new import. It'll be less intrusive than a whole reinstall, at least.

Just navigate to: C:\Users\<Your Computer Name here>\Documents\NeocoreGames\Van Helsing 2\SaveGame\<Number Assigned By Steam>

(The items in "<>" will be specific to your machine)

and look for the name of the character you imported on the files there. Delete the right one, and you should be able to re-Import the character from Van Helsing 1. Just make absolutely certain you are deleting the Van helsing *2* version of the file.

If the Delete doesn't do the trick, then you'll need to perform a whole reinstall.

That did the trick. I deleted the save game file and re-imported the VH1 character for a new game. Thanks a lot !!! I managed to play for several hours tonight, problem free, saving the Lair from attack...now it's off to save Count Vlados. Happy gaming again !!!

Good to hear. I'm sorry you lost some time played figuring this out, but glad the fix wasn't too complex. Best of luck with the rest of your game!
