Failed quests?
Hi,

I just started playing VH2 and I failed both, The Siege and the Octopod Annihilator.
Is there any way to retry this? If not, what happens now?
Aside from loosing the experience bonus, is there any chance to fail finishing the game if you loose too many quests?

No way to retry failed quests, unfortunately. What happens now is that you move onto the next stage of the game, but lose out on the loot drops, xp reward and skill point reward you would have received from the quest completion. It won't affect your chances further into the game, although failing *some* later quests do have an impact on the story.

Argh. Shame you cannot retry the quests. I had to leave the gate unguarded to go look for the Octopod and kept searching for it for about 5-10 minutes and couldn't find it since it wasn't showing on the map and this happens. When I got back there was about a dozen of those chainsaw-hand guys there :|

Oh well. Are those *some* quests marked in any way, btw?

Not marked, but pretty obvious. The ones that tend to affect the narrative do so from the background- like the Tower Defense quests or the quests associated with the Special Forces. They don't affect the story dramatically, and it's actually really hard to screw most of them up. The one you failed with the octopod is actually likely the easiest quest to fail in the entire game and has one of the more expensive costs for failure, as there is a huge amount going on during the time you have to kill the octopod boss. In about 30 test play-throughs of that particular encounter, I've managed to blow it 5 or 6 times myself.

In Thunderhead Mountain there'll be a couple more side quests that can cost you some good loot and a few snarky comments from Katarina as well if you fail to complete them properly, and (without spoiling it too much) there is a quest associated with the Altars dotted around the various game maps which will add to the narrative if you discover it and complete it. Watch for the Ring of Guidance though, that quest is kind of complex and the reward is decent.

Don't sweat it too much though. Quest failure in Van Helsing 1 and 2 doesn't have as severe a cost as most RPGs, and you can always run through with a new character later and do better with your advanced knowledge.

Thanks for the info. I didn't even know you can fail quests in VH1...
